2.02 valves in ford heads
A new question has arisen with me. Does anyone know if 2.02 valves can be put into 1995 E7TE heads? The machine shop I asked pricing for installation didnt say I couldnt use them. But someone else has read an article on this subject.
I have purchased the vlaves already, but only spent 58 bucks for 2.02 and 1.60 valves. So its not alot, and I'm sure I could sell them. But if you know the answer, please let me know.

It is possible to put 2.02 / 1.60 valves in stock heads but it is pushing it. However, after the cost of the machine work to do this a pair of aftermarket heads already made for these valves would be about the same price.

It is very tough to be able to justify spending the bucks on modifying a set of stock Ford heads when there are so many aftermarket choices. If you sit down and do the math, add up all the little things that needs to be done to a set of stock heads it's usually not economical.

They will fit but it's pointless on stock heads. They won't flow enough to need more than 1.94. Also, 2.02 will shroud the bore of a 302 causing a reduction in flow(except TFS-TW heads).

There is a company called powerheads that put 2.02 valves in and sell them, ported and polished, with 3 angle valve jobs, and reports have showed 50 plus horsepower gains.
My heads are going to be fully ported and polished. Also , Since there is alot of metal that can be grinded out, I was told everything should be fine.
As for cost, I'll have just under 500 bucks including purchasing the 95 E7TE heads. I've been lucky on purchasing everything i need. And I can do porting myself. Trust me, i've ran all kinds of figures before I decided to do this to these heads. But I got a little nervous when I was told 2.02 wouldnt fit.

make sure you check the piston to valve clearance the 202's make it tight
Might be better off with the 1.94 valves not much gain with the 202 and you will lose lots of low end.

I don't know exactly whay your going to use the engine for...street, strip, etc, but if its a street car, these heads ported will do a good job. The 202 valves may be a bit much for them because of shrouding and nothing will be gained as compared to a 1.94 valve (it may actually be worse). Iron heads, especially if your going to port them yourself, are a good economical choice for a street car. Small intake volume and good flow is great for lotsa torque and will work up to 6500-7000 well. I did this with a set of '70 351W heads (see pic) and they are excellent for the street. Total cost (after I ported them) of having screw in studs, hardened exhaust seats, valve job, resurfacing, pushrod guides installed, new stainless 1.94/1.60 valves, new springs, was about $500. You will not loose much low end just because you installed 2.02 valves. The port size and induction system has a lot more influence on this than just increasing the valve size.

I think you got this notion from me,but I forgot you were using newer style heads which would have the smaller spark plugs so the 2.02s might fit.The Joe Sherman article I was quoting from was using 60s heads with the big spark plug hole.

Good God blkfrd get some paint on that engine,its naked[img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif[/img] Seriously though I agree with you theres lots of guys with aftermarket big buck heads running 13s and 14s, [img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif[/img] The stock heads can be made to work pretty decent.

Looks aren't everything...actually I painted the engine after I got the timing cover and water pump on. Now it's dressed to kill...well maybe just dispense a little pain.
