An AOD behind a Cleveland

I want to put an AOD behind my Cleveland. I have the donor car, so what all is involved?
The headers I have say that a C-4 is the only trans that they will clear...does someone make shorty's for a Cleveland (2V Aussie heads).

Good luck with the AOD swap, I've wondered about it myself but but have had too many irons in the fire to scope it out. You might try Sanderson, they make a set of block-huggers for the street rod crowd and furnish dimensions to help you decide if they might fit. Take a look:

You should be just fine on the headers. I ran a similar setup with an FMX and then AOD. Some C4 headers that come in tight won't fit a C6 but fit C4. The AOD is much narrower than the C6.

Talk to http://www.windsor-fox.com for details.

I have their AOD conversion mount and shifter rod if you're interested in buying used. You would have to buy the Lokar shift cable that Windsor Fox sells with their 3 piece kit.

I did this swap, and the AOD only lasted about two months. These were two pretty hard months though, weekend racing a 400 cu in camaro my friend owns.

I did adjust the TV mechanism correctly, but 3-4 change was taking longer and longer. When finally pulled, the clutch material was mainly in the pan. When I pulled it out, I also found the convertor had been rubbing on the pump (?) bolts on the front of the transmission. I would suggest two block plates would be a wise idea.

Oh, and my extractors fitted just fine. They were for a C4 trans.

Good luck
Tris

I retrofitted an AOD in place of a C4 in my hotrod Ford Cortina.

Len at Lentech sold me a valvebody with an overdrive delete feature which disables overdrive whilst you have a solenoid energised and re-enables it when you switch it off. This way you get 1,2,3 for the strip and it doesn't shift into 4th.

He also sold me a non-lockup converter which helps the thin inner input shaft live.

My AOD was removed from a cutout V8 and functions fine.

You might think his gear is pricy but it is top quality and you won't be sorry. Ask him to install the 'accumulator' plate for a softer 3-4 shift. Also get him to supply either an 'A' or 'B' servo if you're donnor AOD has a 'C' servo. Alternatively he can sell you a fully reworked box if you want.
