rubber spring coushions cougar

wdflarity posted to my request for 5 leaf 1 inch drop springs. in his reply, he mentioned doing away with the rubber spring cushions. does the braket that once held the cushion get replaced? with a mustang bracket? if so which one for a 68 cougar ?(already has a 9) Does anyone sell them?
Thanks again.

When you remove the rubber between the spring and the housing the housing then sets directly on the spring. You can then use a mustang lower spring plate. The only thing is this raises the rear of the car which is exactly what you were trying not to do by getting lowering springs.

That is correct, the axle would rest on the spring, if you remove the rubber spring cushion. Mustangs do not have a bracket on the top of the spring like the Cougar.

I added a 1" lowering block (for a Mustang) between the spring and axle which I thought would compensate for the spring cushion thickness. Also you may need to change to the Mustang shock plates.

The idea I have is too put a roll control front end on the car. For now I need new leaf springs. (this cat is draggin' it's ass!) Most of (all) of the front end packages I've seen want the rear 1 inch lower. Does anyone make a poly urethane spring pad? If i remove the cushions and braket, what locates the wedge plate? the drawings in the chassis assembly manual aren't real clear about this.

I did the front suspension Shelby 1" drop on the upper control arm.

I removed the stock angle plates in the rear. The pinon angle is approx. 4* up without the stock wedge plates.

I plan to get the 2* alum. wedge plates from Summit ($25). The stock wedge plate locating holes don't match up well without the spring cushion because the holes are too big.

My Mustang mechanic welds various thicknesses of steel plate onto the springs to adjust the pinion angle. Usually you want a 2 -- 3* pinion angle.

thanks for the info. getting rid of the wedge plate sounds a bit well, heavy, for me.
I notice that the rubber cushion looks to be about 1/8 to 3/16 thick when new. Maybe I can use flat aluminum plate in place of the rubber? Any thoughts?
