17" tires for 64 Galaxie 500xl 2 Dr How wide can I go?

I just bought 17x7 Torque thrusts with a 0 offset for my 64 Galaxie. I want to put the widest 50 or 60 series tires I can on it. It has new front suspension and air shocks on the back. Does anyone know what the max tire size it without having problems with rubbing?

this has come up a couple of times on the galaxie board. I believe what I've read is approx 295 series on the rear with a 4.5" backspace. The front will have to be considerably narrower, around a 215/225 series or so, again with a similar backspace. You best bet would be to confirm this via measuring. Go to www.etwheels.com and there is a section on making the proper measurements.

17X9 - 9.5 wide on the back from what I've heard from someone a while back If true it means you could put 275/60/17 tires or a bit bigger on there. I'm not sure on the front though.

Take a combo that works(from those suggested in the Galaxie posts) and find the over diameter and width in inches(there are charts available on line or at your tire store). Then just pick a 17" tire that has the same overall dimensions(in inches). For the front I feel that a 215X65 15" is about right. They have a 26" diameter. My 215x75's rub a little in sharp turns with spring compression. They are 28" in diameter. Hope this helps.
