Cam selection

I need some help on cam selection. Here is my buildup so far:

86 302 Roller Block
66 289 Heads ported with 1.94/1.60 Valves
L2305 .040 Forged Pistons
Performer RPM intake
AOD Tranny
Holley 650DP 4777
and probably about 1-5/8 shorty headers

Approx. 9.6:1 compression.

It is going into a 1951 F1 street rod. I would like to go with a hydraulic roller of some sort. I plan on driving this vehicle everyday during the summer months so it has to be streetable. I don't mind a little bit of a lumpy idle. Some help would be a blessing. I am not sure what kind of gear ratio I should run in the rear either? Also do I have to run a stall convertor?

I run a Erson part number E212838 hyd roller in a 302, very smooth pulling cam. Pulls hard from 2000-6000, would pull higher, but heads hold me back right now. It's a 222-226 @ .050", .512 lift 112 lobe center. Just a slight hint of a rough idle. Very fun to drive in the heavy car. I will add that it works fairly well with a small turbo.

check out the ford e303 cam, would be good with your combo.

I'm building about the same motor, 'cept I went with AFR165s. Agreed, I think a 650dp or vac sec is plenty. I chose a Crane hyd. PowerMax H-272-2 Lift: I/E .484"/.512" Dur:.050 I/E 216/228. Sounds like a happy med. with small bit of room to me Driven Every DAI'f.n.LY
