detroit locker to 31 spline

I have a 28 spline detroit locker I was not going to use . is it possible to just change the internals to 31 spline?

Yes, if you can find the internal gears the axle slips into.

I have no experience with doing this to a Detroit Locker, but it will not work with a trac loc.

The 31 spline axles are larger in diameter, and will not fit into the 28 spline trac-loc case.

I HAVE seen dirt track guys bore the 28 spline units out for 31 spline axles (when installing a 31 spline mini-spool) with no problems, but have not done so myself.
