noise at launch

Gang - have a strange noise at launch. Looking for tips. Car is a mustang 73, 351c,c6. When I really romp it at a standstill the tires grab and I hear CLICK CLICK CLICK...Thought it was ping from the high compression heads, but now I dont think so. I will ck driveline - fan shroud - motor and trans mounts - exhaust - an other suggestions?

If the noise accelerates with the engine speed, the starter bendix may be sliding back into the ring gear.

If the clicking accelerates quickly , but not as fast as the engine, check u-joints.

If it accelerates more in line with the car's rate, check rear axle bearings.

Check the trans tunnel for signs of rubbing.

Check the bolts that hold the converter and flex plate together, and check for cracks in the flex plate around the bolts.

Check front u-joint.
