400 HiPo???

I have a '72 400. I jsut got some new heads for it. I would like to know what the stock valve sizes are. Also what are some mods that I can do that won't cost a lot to get some power out of this thing. I bought a Holly 4V intake for it and the heads are 351C heads 2.04 in. 1.67 Ex. I know this year 400 has the dished pistons and the flat top ones are alot better. But other than a rebuilt what can I do to get some go outa my motor. What type of carb or will a stock ford 4V work? How many CFM's? ingnition? rocker arms? cam specs? or anything easier. I would like to get some headers but have found no place that cells them seeing that I put this motor in a '66 ford WAGON.

Valve size is the same as 351C 2V at 2.05"/1.65". The only flat-top piston that I know about is the Ohio Piston (now Dynagear) #1282P. It will give you 9:1 compression with 400 open chamber heads. Use 351C 2V heads and you'll have a little more compression. The piston will still be too far down the hole for good quench, so you won't be able to run closed chamber heads on pump gas. About the only way to do that would be to have a custom piston made to give you a zero deck clearance. What's your intended performance desire?

351c pistons are also a viable option, just have to bush the rods to accept the 351c pin.

400 HiPo???

I am not looking for a screamer, but some more power to play around with. Just enough to get outa my own way and sqeal the tires some. A little punch when I hit the gas instead of crawling up to speed. So what about that holly street dominator 4V intake I got. Good power boost or not so noticeable? What carb? Stock ford 4V off of a 352 Fe

Here's some interesting reading about 400M engines.

You may be able to find a set of 351C exhaust manifolds that will fit in place of the stock pieces. Other than that nothing will be remotely cheap in the way of headers.
You may also be able to make a set of Mustang or Torino headers fit.
