Only little boys wear bowties.

If going fast is the objective, it's tough to beat the C4. If the C4 is too violent, you can always put less gear under it. This will give it the 'mild' launch of a powerglide, and the car will have an extra gear for the top end!

But, I guess 'cheap' is a quality overcoming many faults... and powerglides are probably cheaper than fully built C4's

I'll just 'row my own' thank you...

Good Luck!

Dollar for dollar I've found them to about the same $$$, then you have to get it to fit!

Why dont you just put more tire under it? I'm sure you will get traction by switching to a 'glide, but you will sacrifice 60' times and also et. If 2 speed transmissions were the hot ticket, I think the modified class cars would all be running them as would the fast super stockers. But they arent running powerglides, because they are slower than a 3 speed, especially if your motor doesnt make 650 ft lbs of torque.

Sounds like an expensive band aid fix to me.

If there's not enough room for more tire, a switch to a milder gear in the rearend might be worthwhile.

If it's got 4.88's now, a switch to 4.56's or 4.30's might calm things down a bit... as this would have the same effect as going to a powerslide.

Good Luck!

Depends who you speak to with regards to 'glides. We have a guy running in a 355 chev in g/gas (360 ci small blocks w/750 holley only) who use to swear by the 'glide until he swapped to a C4. Went 2 tenths quicker on trans alone That changed his tune. Made me laugh.

Depends on the weight of the car. I would think that any racecar under 2800lb should go faster with a Glide. They are lighter, and less power through frictional loss than other auto transmissions.

JW's site claims that if the car weighs less than #3000, and has more than 600 hp it will go faster with a 'glide. My car weighs #2845 with me, and it slowed down with a glide. I dont like 'em from an ET standpoint, 2 gears just isnt enough selection unless your motor makes 650 ft lbs of torque. I truely beleive the guys that o faster with them with little motors, 355 chevy for expamle, had a bad convertor/trans/motor combo the first time. Or, they had no idea how to tune a suspension and couldnt get it to the ground.
