Brake Installation ... In rememberance ... read first post edit

After bleeding per the "new" instructions ... no change

The rear calipers are indeed Cadillac ... They mount in such a way that it is easy to see there would be "chamber" above the level of the bleeder ... so the bleed technique does make sense.

In the final analisis ... I still have no pedal if the engine is running

That is a strange problem. Could be the parking brake adjustment problem as described previously. Do the parking brakes hold?

Here is a link that talks about the conversion and adjusting the parking brakes. If nothing else, it is good reading.

Does the car run properly with the booster disconnected and the lines plugged? If so, it may be that the booster is defective.

Let us know, I am really curious now.

BMW ... I think you may have hit the nail on the head ...

I have one rear caliper that locks up on me ... only way to realease it is to crank on the E-Brake arm nut.

Sounds like if the e-Brake is not adjusted correctly at the caliper ... Guess what you won't have ?????

BRAKE PEDAL

I'll get into this tomorrow as well ... thanks for the link.

BTW ... I was shorted the E-Brake cables ... should be here soon though.

One noticeable fact...

Passenger side rear caliper locks up on every application of the brakes ... It will release, if I pick it up and tap it on the rear spring (Please know the caliper is off the bracket right now with a wood block between the pads ... This was done last night for proper bleeding)

All three other calipers clamp and release on their own with each application of the brake pedal.

Any thoughts ... I'm going out to see what I can learn about the E-Brake adjustment now

Larry,

It could be a bad or sticking caliper. With the core you can get a new one for about $45 bucks at autozone. I called around until I found some in stock. $78 for a pair of brand new loaded calipers. My new calipers came with a warning label to not release the parking brake lever nut until the caliper was mounted on the rotor. When you release the nut, the parking brake adjusts itself properly to the rotor. For $45 or $50 bucks it is not worth the headache.

BMW1, I used a SSB front disc brake conversion on my 65, and it does not stop all that good either, a little dissappointed with them but they work, and most likely better than the front drums.

Mine are manual btw.

Seller of kit will replace the caliper if needed at no charge ... just the shipping wait ...

Hmmmm ... Almost worth the cost to avoid the wait time

Would a "sticking caliper" cause this other stuff ... like lack of pedal on the first pump?

But then, I'm also waiting for the park brake cables maybe no big deal. I can always turn my attention to the F100 for a few days

Larry,

I am no brake expert by any means, but it sure seems likely that if the caliper is sticking you would lose your pedal.

If the caliper is truly sticking, this means its piston is not moving far enough, right?

This will not cause the system to "lose pedal". It would decrease pedal travel, because only 3 wheels had moving pistons.

I still think there is a simple solution here that pressure bleeding will help discover.

Hopefully you figure it out soon, I know these are frustrating problems.
