Large primary headers
Anybody know who makes 1 3/4 primary tube full length headers for 289/302's in 67-70 Mustangs? I can't locate any, are custom headers the only choice? I talked with Hooker tech reps at the Sema show and they seems to think something would be out this summer, but I think he was telling me what I wanted to hear. Why are they ignoring vintage mustang owners with all the great choices in cylinder heads these days? Everything is Fox oriented. Is there no demand out there?

Large primary headers
I here ya. I'd love to be able to find a good set of "P-head" compatible 1 3/4" headers, to fit a 67 to 70 351W, 4 speed car. There are some tri-y's but no good 4 into 1's with decent tube sizes.

Large primary headers
I'd buy a set... if they would make them.
I've never found any. There was a place by the name of Gemini Racing that offered a $700/set uncoated for a while, but they are out of business now. JBA offered a goofy looking set years ago, but those are now discontinued.
I'd love to see Hooker come out with a nice set.
If anyone else knows of any, speak up!
Good Luck!

N02mike, what size primaries are you using? You are running a similar combo. I checked into custom headers, around 1k, ouch!
Also, I'm trying to decide on a trans choice, this car is a street/strip low 11/10 second juice car. TKO, Toploader, Jerico? I'm willing to spend the $ for the jerico, but how would it work for occasional trips to the local cruise? Any info would be appreciated, Thanks.

I use 1-5/8" Hooker Super Comps.
The car also has a stock wide ratio toploader. Those 'race' trannys do not have syncronizers and totally suck on the street. However, if it's a track only car, it's tough to miss a powershift with them. As a matter of fact, that's about the only way to shift em'. They'll grind like hell if you try and shift them slow. You can look at the mustangworks site below for full stats on the car.
Good Luck!

If the heads are not 'P' heads with the changed plug position then Pacemaker here in Australia make a set of full length primaries for 'em. These are 1"5/8 as I run on my 65.
Here's a link to a pic: http://www.speedshop.com.au/pacemaker/images/ph4030.jpg

Mike,
I tried to make a set of 1 3/4 in headers once for my 289 heads and quit very early in the design because there was an issue with the 1 3/4" pipe actually fitting into a flange that would work on the narrow Windsor ports. The bolt spacing was too narrow and the pipe would wind up being restricted right at the port exit and also there was issues where the 1 3/4" pipe would have to make the sharp bend at the towers . I think this is the reason they don't make them off the shelf. I wound up with 1 5/8 to 1 3/4 stepped hedders.

Large primary headers
I've thought about that too...
But there sure are plenty of people that are happy with the 1-3/4" Hooker #6208 headers that are designed to plant a 351W between the fenders of 65-70 mustangs.
Hooker uses an adapter plate to fit some of their larger tube headers to 351's in Fox body cars. It's a 3/8" flange that uses the regular bolt pattern to bolt to the head, then the flange is tapped on a different pattern to fit the headers.
Of course the plate would make things even tighter...
I'll eventually have a monster, nitroused 351W stroker in the car. If I need to do the mustang II front end for a GOOD set of headers, so be it! ...but a big set of headers would be nice for now.
Either that, or I'll start over with something else that's easier to work with.
Good Luck!

I like the idea of getting something easier to work with. My last Ford hotrod was a black '68 Futura Sports Coupe. It was wider and easier to work with than my little '66 Mustang but not much heavier. I still have it, but unfortunately, a pinetree blew over and mashed in the top while I was building a 500 HP Cleveland for it.

Large primary headers
Am I missing something?
Except for a drop won't 351W headers fit this app? I guess the steering (box) would be of concern. If not, the Hooker 6208 fits.
Otherwise see http://www.fordpowertrain.com and they can show you their selecting. They are very very helpful on headers. And their headers are beautiful. Best I've ever had.
