Personally, I would steer away from buying an old police car. It's not intentional, but we beat the crap out of our patrol cars. When we get rid of them, they are pretty well shot. If you really want a used car, make sure you really go over the car. I know the low price tag sounds appealing, but just remember, if the odometer reads 100,000 miles you really need to double that for the motor. Police cars often sit running at an idle for hours at a time and lots of stop and go traffic. This is just my opinion working as a cop in PA.

Perhaps not a Crown Vic, but if someone had an Aussie XB Interceptor a'la Road Warrior, I'd be interested

Anybody ever buy a used police car?

Yea My Brother bought a 1965 413cid Polara, used to be A California Highway Patrol Car! That was a 140 MPH car! This was in 1976 or so, He bought it from a buddies dad who was an Officer with the CHP! So I guess it was hand picked. After he wrecked it he put the 413 into a 1969 Charger R/T SOOOOOPER Strong! Well this is a great story but of no help to you. A used cop car is really used. They are driven as if stolen every day, however they receive better than average maintenence, and yea they idle like 6-8hrs a day! 7x52!

Here is a different look at this purchase. How equipped are the units? Reason being, is the film industry is always looking for "Police Cars" for tv / movies, even music videos. If you are able to get the car, and make a deal on making it a "film car" you could turn around and rent it out to a production, fully functional for around $300 a day. Even better, if you take the car, and have a high quality, out of site cage put in, you could rent out as a "Stunt vehicle" for $5-600 a day, plus repairs.
The guy I rent police cars from started off by buying an old taxi, painting it CHP colors, outfitting it with period lights.Productions loved it that they didn't have to buy a car then hire a group of people to build the car. Now, Jimmy has over 200 police, taxi, undercover, fire chief, even pizza delivery cars.
That would be my interest, in renting it to productions. Being a 97, it is still a current car in many detachments across N. America.

Yep, bought a 93 Mustang (GA state patrol) interceptor a few years back for $4000. It rode like a buckboard and was very heavy. I took a 50mph hit in the side one night by a drunk driver in a 69 Ford pickup. All passengers were bruised but OK. Both vehicles were totalled. There was a heavy steel beam in the door and it held up nicely. Luckily the Bluebook value paid off nicely too. $6000

"Its got a cop motor, a 440 cubic-inch plant. Its got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. Its a model made before catalytic converters, so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?"

How could you go wrong. I've never bought one, but I've been pulled over by quite a few.

Isn't the next line something like..."fix the lighter"?
