AFR 165cc and 331 stroker

I have a 302 with AFR 165cc heads. I've been toying with idea of useing a 331 stroker kit to get a little performance boost. I really don't want to port my heads, but i could (have it done) if needed.
The car is used for open track style driving and some street.

Strokers are just so cooooooooooolllll. 31 more inches is going to be a big disapointment if you don't change everything else....

I don't want to upset anyone on this board so I won't use names......I've read many post on peoples strokers making X amount of power.......AND IT IS NOTHING TO BRAG ABOUT! 99 percent of the time that little 30-50 cubic inches adds nothing! Most race motors make 2 hp per cubic inch so do the math for a "street/strip 1.2hp per inch" car and you end up with squat. Spead money on cam/heads/exhaust and you will be better off.

I would consider changing the cam and intake as well. I have the Weiand Stealth now. I alot invested in the 165cc AFRs (upgraded vavles, springs, ect) even 1hp per CI would be a pretty big boost 30hp is quite a bit. I don't turn the motor over 6200rpms, just wondering if the heads are gonna hold me back ALOT. The current cam is a 224/226 555/565.

The extra cubic inches will make your combo a lot more streetable and move the torque down to a more usable range. The cost of the stroker crank and matching bearings is not much more than what you would spend on a quality rebuild and when you combine the lighter pistons and rods, it really wakes up a 302! You may even consider an aluminum/steel flywheel to make the engine rev faster and quicker out of the turns. Since you already have decent heads and cam, you could just use what you already have. You would gain compression, torque, and HP without gaining any front end weight! It's a win-win situation.

If you're building a serious track pounder, then a decent port job, bigger cam, and Victor jr. would be in order.

Those heads will do very well up to your max rpm of 6200. In addition, those heads will provide excellent torque with smaller 165 cc runners. I'm using ported 351W heads that have 160-165 cc intake volume and their great up to 6500 rpm. Flow with my heads are 220/180 @ .500. Your's are probably better so go for it. The best performing heads are the one's with the smallest runners possible with the highest attainable flow. What is your cam's advertised rpm range? If you want something that will do the job up to 6200 rpm, go with a Comp 280H or 282S minimum (flat tappet cams) if your cam is not rated that high.
