NEED TRANY HELP ON EXPLORER

I have a 94 Explorer with a v6 and aod. when I come to a stop it dies. When I restart it and put it into drive it dies. It seems that the torque converter is locking up cause it feels like letting out on a clutch at idle. It feels like a manual with the gears stuck. It acts like the converter has no stall at all, like it is just locking up. If I can get it to move it feels like a rocket, it just goes all at once. I have seen this on GM's and it was the converter locking up, all I did was unplug the converter wire and it was ok in drive with no overdrive. any body have a solution?....Bob

Sounds like converter to me, ID pull it out and drain it and see if any chunks come out before plotting next move.

Time for a converter. Pray there's no other damage to the tranny, but there usually is...

The trans you have is an A4LD and your problem is most likely the lock-up solenoid. Is it ok cold and as soon as it warms up it starts locking up? Just by unplugging the harness and it stopping kind of points that direction. Sounds like an easy fix. For reference it is mounted on the side of the valve body and it is the one towards the front of the car. The one behind it is for 4th gear.
