55 Ford F100 ... Project

OK Guys ... I put this in the garage ... I'll test the waters here. Maybe it's TECH'y enough to justify being posted here

After all ... I am building a whole damn truck from scratch ... hard to get more "Tech" than that.

I'm including a link to my web site where I have my parts, plans and ideas listed ... some of it is etched in stone, some is not. Since a lot of this is a "one time shot" I'd like to hear any and all ideas about what I'm doing here ... I don't want to miss the boat ... just because I didn't get correct/enough input

I'm not real familiar with Griffin radiators, though I've heard good things about 'em. Why are you going with just a two core? Seems to me a big block with an automatic should have a three core, at the least. I'd consider an electric fan, too. That 250 rear would have to go, too!! 'Course, I get the feeling you're planning on more of a cruiser than a hot rod..?

This two core is only 1" tubes ... the one on my "nasty ass" 351C is 1.25" tubes ... one difference is this one is about $300.00 less $$$ (the one in my Mach1 was $514.00 this one is $189.00) I think this one will still have enough efficiency to cool me down with a lower compression motor and I'll also be running an "engine" oil cooler just like I am in My Mach1 ... hopefully this will keep me cool enough. Me thinks so

As for the 2.50:1 rear gears ... that's what the rear end came with ... I think something like 3.00:1 might be better and you are absolutely correct ... this truck will be more of a "daily driver & highway cruiser" than anything else ... zero "Hot Rod" ambitions on this project

"zero hot rod ambitions for this project..." Yea, right...That's what the 460 is for, huh?? You'll probably be fine with an oil cooler. I'd recommend a seperate tranny cooler, too just to be on the safe side. Keep us informed as it comes together. Sounds like a fun ride.

Yeap ... Tranny cooler will absolutely be incorporated into the mix.

Especially considering the average summer day here in Vegas is near 110 degrees

Too bad you already have the Lincoln rear end (or maybe not) The early 60's P/U rear ends are 9" and are straight bolt in's. But they don't have disk brakes on them.

Steve ...

My Brake system for "Four Wheel Disc" is already in place ... Master Cylinder, Power Booster and Proportioning Valve.

It was a kit that bolts right into the factory position under the floor and works with the factory pedal.

Once I get this frame work complete, I just have to finish off the plumbing and I should have some killer brakes

With any luck at all ...

If you've noticed some of my recent posts ... my history with "Four Wheel Power Disc Brake" kits ain't so good

Larry, run those gears before you decide to change em. 460Tom has 2.75:1 in his 460(what else?) F-100 and it flies! So many guys put too much gear in those Effies. Your 460 has a whole lotta torque.

I'm pretty sure I will run them initially ...

Off the cuff they sound real high ... but,

As you say ... Why trade out what I have, when I haven't even ran them yet.

Those gears may, in the end, be the only way to get any highway fuel efficiency out of this truck.

You should get over 10 with that combo. My 460 gets 12, and Im runnin 4.11 gears with an OD tranny. Your 2.5 gears are even better than my setup as far as highway RPMS go.
