Port plates for 4v C heads?

The guy that sold me my set of 4v heads said that port plates will really help gain some power, I belive he said that they raise the exhuast ports The shop that is doing my motor said that I won't need them, and that it is for motors more racy then mine? Could someone tell me a little more about them and how much they usually run for? Do they add a lot of power?

Port plates for 4v C heads?

One word to describe port plates for ALL applications

YUCK!

or

WORTHLESS!

I ran them for awhile on both my race motor and my street/strip motor. I gained nothing execpt a bigger tendency for hedder leaks. The intake plates are just as worthless. And truth be told, the way my exhuast ports ar ported, the plates made them lose flow instead of helping it. Dont do it. They are not worth the time, money nor effort it takes to use them.

Port plates for 4v C heads?

Bobcat, using the MPG plates on the exhaust side I noticed some improvement, heads were very much stock with bowl and port opening work. The intake plates were very much a hassle when trying to place the intake manifold on the engine,I removed the intake plates and modified the intake runners to allow for the design of the plates and I must say on the 4V heads,I seen improvement, especially at the lower rpm range where my car needed it..Dave.

I tried them on my cleveland, but saw NO improvement in ET. I can even say that there was any improvemant on the street. That is something that you can't measure, except seat of the pants feel, but I couldn't feel anything different. They are a pain in the a$$ to install and seal up. I don't recommend them.

Check out my website and click the link to the dyno runs with and without the plates and make a decision. These were "Stinger" plates.

As far as what KidV says...I am in the process of porting my 4V heads and checking as I go on my flowbench. The Stinger is making less and less contribution as the port is improved.
