cam selection

for my 302...i cant decide on what to get, i know the area of what i want but wont decide until i take the one i love apart, so i will probably keep the same cam profile exept maybe up the lift, will that increase power yet run the same idle? and how much increase is good for street/xracer in the intake and out. i was in a stock 5.0 and loved the power, but of course i want more with 2bbl, then later to four, but i want good / max mileage. thanks hope this isnt confusing!
