Head Lights Dash Lights any of the lights.

Hello all, This is my first post here so be gentle I've own a 89 conv mustang and just bought my very own 1965 coupe. The car is in great condition and runs decent. The problem I am having (if it is a problem) is this. After driving for a few days, I was having a hard time starting the motor, Battery keep dieing and had to jump it. After testing the Alternator, it was putting out 11 amps. Replaced the alternator. car runs fine now. But when the car is idling the dash lights and head lights are dim. once I step on the accelerator they all brighten back up. What I need to know is if this is normal, or did i possible get a bad alternator ??? any feed back would help. Thanks, Oh yeah. The battery was pretty beat up so it was also replaced. Tried to charge it to no avail. Later.

I had a similar problem. Put a new voltage regulator on it, especially if it the original still in the car. It should be located on the core support next to the radiator on the drivers side, easy to do and not expensive. Even if that does not solve the problem you are better off with the new solid state technology in the new regulators.

Also check all wireing harness connections at the firewall, the main connection going into the car from the engine compartment is on the drivers side near the hood hinge I think, mine came loose and all my lights and radio and stuff quit working, just pushed back together and BAM its all good.

It's the voltage regulator and/or the connection to it. The connectors get dirty and beat up. At Idle it should have 12.5to12.8 volts.
