C-4 REBUILD

Geez I wish I hadn`t read that c-4 post, now I`m really confused. I checked around to find a reputable trans. person but had no luck.I decided to order the rebuild kit from PA. Is this a good idea for an amatuer?
Im going to order Tues morning.

The PA kit is a good idea, very complete with all the right parts.
Go to Ebay and search for Ford C-4 manuals, they published some very in depth rebuild and troubleshooting manuals. I have bought a couple that would really help a beginner tranny builder.
Good luck.

You can get about the same kit from bulkpart.com as from PA for a lot less....

Not to disagree with Just Stokin but check that the Bulkparts kit comes with thrust washers, selective washers, pump gears and all the small parts the PA kit comes with. I know the PA kit is a lot more money but there is enough parts to put it together right.
Anyone who has rebuilt a few C-4's has most of the small parts kicking around but are hard to find for your first one.

That's important. Unless you have a yard with a "tranny pile" that you can scarf parts from or a well equipped local trans shop, that's the only way to get the little parts. Ford only carries a few of the big snap rings and you really have to explain it to the parts guy. At least here, the trans mechanics at the Ford house never seem to bother with clearances.
