dual exhaust/headers for 351 C mustang w.2v heads?

I have a basket case 71 Mustang coupe with a 351C 2v. I am already upgrading the intake with an Edelbrock performer intake and 600cfm carb. I want to put dual exhaust at least, preferably with headers. Currently, the 'stang has an FMX tranny. Any suggestions that won't break the bank? I'm not trying to build a 10 second car (obviously), just a fun fast streetable car.

Right on, you got the same car as me, except I have the 3 speed manual in mine. You can get a set of hedmans for your car for about 110 bucks from summit, and exhaust is entirely up to you. I'd run a dual 2.5 system, with a balance tube and some good mufflers. Flowmaster even sells the mandrel bent tail pipes for these cars for 99 bucks. be an all around good system, with room to grow later on.

With the hedmans, I won't have any clearance probs with the FMX? I know you cant put them on a C6.

Balance tubes are to help equalize exhaust pressure. They are worth a bit more torque in the low end, and also help to tune the sound. And no, they are not absolutely necessary
