General question about performance c4 trans

I'm going to put together a backup trans for my stang, and want to do some different stuff. Before, I have just gone with B&M master kits, I assume that they just have the factory clutches and what not. I now see that two sets of clutches with different materials are on the market. The Red Eagle Friction & Kolene Steels set seems to always go together, and the raybestos blue friction clutches seem to lean to stock steels. Can the Raybestos clutches be used with Kolene steels?

You can, but always make sure that the stack height is checked. Also, some people weld steels together to make a thinner retainer/spacer so they can add an extra clutch or adjust stack height. I'm not the best at discribing what I'm trying to say????

you cannot run the blues on the street. I really don't care for the kolene since it comes off pretty quick. I get a 'race kit' from bulkpart.com for ~75 master kit with alto clutches.

General question about performance c4 trans

The Alto's are pretty good - I got a "performance" kit from JC Whitney (of all places) for mine that had the Alto's. The trans has been putting up with some real s@#t since it was built in 95. I used a B&M kit and TCI Kevlar bands. No problems. I just added a TCI "H" servo this weekend and with a new race track only 15 miles away, I'll probably have to go through it next year. I'd go with the Alto's again.

Alto has susposed to have released this last november. I haven't checked lately.

Ford C4 Reverse Hi-PowerPack Kit #025755

It is a kit to put 6 clutchs in the stock drum.

But, you have to buy them from a dealer, you can't buy them dircetly from Alto.

I have heard many guys complain about the blue clutches. I have also heard some guys say the red and blue are both good. Can some one explain the difference. Why can't blue clutches be run on the street?

I can tell you from my experience I will never buy the raybestos Blue Plates again. I'm running the red Alto's now with no problems. I've never heard not to use them on the street

So why won't you use them? What's the problem with them? I'm asking because I just put some in my trans. Is it a mistake?

My current tranny has blue clutches in it. At midsummer when I had it apart to clean out converter parts the clutches looked excellent. I will have it apart in a week or 2 to do an analysis but it was working great after 140 runs.
