More go fast Q`s

I am looking at a 15x4 rim for my front drag race wheels. Is this going to be a good front drag rim? I will have to keep it street legal and fairly safe to drive on the freeway. If I go 3" I feel that would be to narrow for freeway action. What do you think?

I havent looked into it yet but I hope to find BFG T/A`s for a 4" rim, to keep radials all the way around

I think I am going to order the 3.5x15 Weld rim for the front... From talking to people, as long as it is not a daily driver it should be fine... I will be running M/T E.T. Streets and Sportsman fronts... Already have those... Just need to order up the rims...
But, you said you wanted radial... Alot of people I know are running the old VW Bug tires... They are 15 inch and fit fine on that size rim...

Here is a link to a question I asked awile ago.... Maybe it will help...

It's more of a tire thing than a rim thing in racing. You want light stuff, so you pick the skinniest tire, make it 2ply not 4 and no heavy steel radial wire and va-voom you have a great drag tire....

So, you really need to pick your tire first, then your rim....and going from a 3" to a 6" aftermarket aluminum rims does not add enough weight to worry about.

If I recall, I believe he still drives this vehichle on the street.... Nastystang, are you going to drive this on the street???? I was to told for a trailored strip car go for the lightest front tire you can get.... But for a vehicle that is driven on the street you need something with a little bit stiffer side wall... I was told to run the 8 ply for a street/strip car... The 2 or 4 ply front runner tire will have no support turning or anything and basicly fold over... The 8 ply has alot better support for a street driven vehicle from what I have been told... 8 ply is what I will be using, have not tryed them yet.....
Or the VW Bug tire will work also, it has a good stiff sidewall for the street.....

I ran 15 x 3 torque thrusters on mine for a while. I then traded them to my pops and he runs them on his T-Bolt clone car now. Not a bit of problems biting in curves or running straight.
That was my big worry too! But they were very street worthy.
I think alot of times small front runner tires up front pose a problem when the stance of the car is all wacked out..example 50's in the rear and maxi'd out air shocks. This is when the front runners are use less.

It is not what would be considered a daily driver, but when I drive it, it assumes all the daily driver responsibility`s.

I thought you needed to keep away from mixing radial tires and biasply. I have the drag radials in back, so I would need to keep a radial on the front. I will talk to my local tire outlets to day and find out how skinny I can go.

Thanks for the input guys.

billy, I was just giving an example of how racers pick a tire....He is doing street driving and thats why I said he should pick a tire that he needs for his driving and then pick the rims....not pick some rims then get whatever fits..sorry if I confussed anyone?????

Not confused at all, any and all reccommendations are welcome. That is why I posted, to find out what other`s are doing and if it will work for me.

I called Less Schwab, they have a tire ( 165 x 15 ) that will fit on a 15 x 4 rim. I think this is what I will be doing, it is a radial and it will have much less mass than the 16x8 225x50x16 setup than I am running now, and weigh about 10lbs+ less per side.

So I know I will gain a little, less rotating mass, and about 20lbs less weight.

Thanks again.

I run 165 15's on my drag car & it's ok. I put them on my Spoiler & it's a handful on the highway in turns, feels washy. I ran the same ones on my '71 Mustang & it was somewhat better. Probably be a lot easier if these examples weren't iron head big block cars
