Carb Recommendations for 289

I have a 289 bored .030 over with KB pistons with 9.7:1 compression ratio. A XE268H Compcams .224/.230 @.050 and .509/.512 lift.
Stock heads ported with 1.94/1.60 valves. A Edelbrock RPM Air gap. The car weights 2600 lbs. and has a T-5 manual and 3.73 rear gear ratio.

So what carb should I use with this combo?
Thanks in advance.

I'll throw my hat in ...I would say with that combo. I would try a 700 dp Holley with manual secondary's.
The only thing I've done to the carb was change the jets a size down. Keep in mind..I'm at 7 ft above sea level.
No hesitations ..just nice and crisp throttle response.

I would recommend a 650DP for your application. Better throttle response, improved venturie signal, and superior top-end response over the vacuum secondary.

Going with the 750 might be a little large with that motor. It would work in a race application where WOT is utilized all day long otherwise stick with the 650cfm.

650DP

I went from a 650DP to a 750 Speed Demon on my car, and the dragstrip et remained UNCHANGED.

650DP is plenty.

Good Luck!

I have nearly the same engine combo as you; .040 over 289, 9.8 compression, about 10 deg. and .030" more cam w/solid lifters, the Airgap, ported stock '65 heads w/ 1.090 and 1.060 valves and a Carter 625 AFB. Day before yesterday it went 12.85 sec. and 106 MPH (car is full weight '67 Cougar except front bumper, A/C compressor and P/S pump are removed). Prior outing with a 750 (3310) Holley was 13.12 and 103 MPH so I'd also say you don't need a bg carb.

I will have to go along with the crowd on this one. I use a 650 Speed Demon on my 5.0, it goes mid 12`s, and is plenty capable of low 12`s. It runs and idles fine. I think anything over 650 would not benefit your application.

I have a Holley 390 DP racing carb like your talking about and I like to try it out on just about everything. I've seen it make a mild 302 run 13.20 @ 103 mph. Talk about responsive!!!

I run a 0.030" 289 with ported GT-40P heads and a little less cam than yours. About 9.5:1 comp. I've got a 600 vac sec on it at the moment but I'm just waiting for a second hand 650DP to turn up in the classifieds before I go down that path.
