efi swap help

ok so I seem to have aquired what I need for the swap exept for the 02, and mass air sensors and the fuel pump. so question(s) is this, what pump should I use? and can I use helli coils instead of the weld in 02 bungs? oh ya this is a retro fit to a 289 so what do I need to do to make the injectors fire in the right order, besides buy another harne$$ from windsor-fox.

you need a EFI specific electric pump. Most people use an intake pump and have their tank modified to accept it. You can also get an external mount pump that will provide the right amount of pressure. Search for a company named "windsor fox engineering" and they will have some products that will work.

Make sure you upgrade your rubber fuel line to hardline or EFI specific rubber hose, otherwise the fuel pressure will burst standard rubber fuel line.

I dont understand how you'd use helicoils... you need to weld in the bungs into the header collector, so that the O2 sensor can screw in to it. The thread size is the same as that of a sparkplug. Ford dealers sell that bung, and most muffler shops may have it also.

You should change your camshaft to a 351W or 5.0L cam to have the late model firing pattern. Or i suppose you could re wire the injector harness so it matches up to the 289 firing order.

I got the idea for useing hellicoils, maybe im thinking of the wrong name, from one of those sunday automotive shows on tnn, on the show the host used hellicoils to mount sparkplugs in the tail pipes for a flamethrower kit.

In thinking about it, i dont know if the EEC has a preset "firing order" for the injectors. It may be that the firing is taken from the distributor firing order... so if you order is set to the early 289 style, than the injectors fire correspondingly.

I am not sure, you should definatley call windsor fox or mustangs plus.

also, read this article":

Your old rubber lines can be used as a return line as they are not subjected to the higher pressures of the feed line.

Nope definatly not.....

For the computer to fire the injectors(and run the fuel pump) it must get a ignition pulse from the PIP in the distributor. The computer in turn advances/retards the timing.

The computer is programed for the firing order, spark plug/wire order has nothing to do with it. You just need to swap 4 wires(inj 3&7 with 5&4), at the computer plug to correct the injector firing order. What harness and computer do you have?? I'll see if I have a wiring diagram, and let you know the pin # and color code.
