Someone help me out with Crane lifters.....

The guy doing the machine work on my block told me that Crane makes vertical bar lifters (HYDRAULIC ROLLER) for a 351w that you don't have to use the little finger type tabs to hold them down. Is anyone familiar with these? He says he much prefers these over the ones that use the tabs. I CAN'T FIND THEM ANYWHERE!!!

No, those are mechanical lifters. This is driving me nuts. Anyone had any problems with the tabs on the retrofit ones? Thanks for trying coolfalcon

I researched this option for my 331 stroker.

Here is a link:

There is more than one thing to consider when doing this conversion and cost is at the top of my list.

Summit carries it here.

If cost is the issue, don't convert. Flat lifters work fine and the benefits of rollers aren't as much as you might think.

Figure about an additional $500 for roller over flat if your block isn't made for roller already.

I used the Crane lifters you're referring to, they allow you to use a "normal" base circle cam in a non roller block.

The "finger tabs" which you're referring to are usually called dogbones. They've been known to pop out if the cam has high lift or the engine sees 6500+rpm.

Use whatever is applicable to your motor, the Crane lifters are extremely $$$ ($375).

That's the ones!!! Do you happen to have a part number Chilly. Gonna be running a .595 lift cam and my machinist is worried about them popping out. Thanks
