Very, very heavy. The ones I have seen are also very tough. Maybe it's just my imagination but it seems you are able to put a ton of miles on them before they need any work. Normally they are not really thought of as a performance transmission. Just too heavy.

FMX TRANSMISSIONS!

I had professionally rebuilt an fmx tranny which was in my 71 ltd convertible. I got about 15000 miles before I needed a rebuild. This was with a 350+ hp 351 windsor. This was without drag racing, just street driving. Granted, I was pretty hard on it but these trannies are like balsa wood with rubber bands, to handle a serious motor go c6 and never go back. I converted to c6 and it made the driveline feel much more solid and smooth, the tranny is from performance automatic. I would say if you're going with less than 300 hp go with fmx, its ok but if you want anything to last, go with a c6 if possible, you won't regret it.

I've really never heard many good things about the durability of the fmx, especially from those who've owned them.

I've been building FMXs and C6's for years. The FMX is simplier more difficult for the average rebuilder to redo. The C6, granted, has larger clutches in it. However, I have spoken with several AOD rebuilders who started off in the FMX world as I did and have nothing but good to say about the tranny. This in itself does not change the fact that it's harder to find parts for FMX's than the other trannies. But I would stick with what you've got for now.
