heater fan control

My '84 mustang's heater fan will only work on the highest setting, is there a resistor somewhere that needs to be replaced, or could the actual switch in the dash be bad?

Ford uses a resistor that is mounted in the heater box. Look for an item that has a bout 3 or 4 wires attached to it on the front side and usually the color where it screws into the box is red.
