SSM Lift Bars

I can't seem to find a good picture of the SSM bars for a 69 Mustang. Do they bolt on and work similar to slapper bars? Are they an improvement over slapper bars? I'm trying to figure out if I should try these or just go to Cal Tracs. Thanks for any info.

SSM Lift Bars

The SSM bars replace the lower spring retention plate and are held on by the U-bolts. The shocks also attach to them. Unlike a slapper bar, they are actually clamped to the springs behind the front eye in order to preload the suspension. The amount of preload can be tuned using spacer plates supplied with the bars. They are hearty pieces. For the cost they are hard to beat, but the CalTracs look promising as well.

For a look at how the car behaves with them, check out the video at Ckelly's website, http://users.abilene.com/~dkelly/hotrod/

Thanks for the plug. The SSM's provide a solid connection between the axle and the front spring eye. You can tune them with spacers and wedges for the pinion angle. I'm thinking about 2 deg more pinion right now. I get good rear separation with them and some people go really fast with them. I have not done any "tuning", just used two spacers on the right rear and one on the left. The car's on a weight plan right now, so they may work even better and I'll get more nose rise.

The CalTracs turn the leaf spring into a psuedo 4 link with some more tuning capabilities. An industrious individual could make their own CalTrac bars. The design is pretty simple.
