Anybody know about Wilwood Brakes?

I'm looking at their heavy duty front disc conversion for the cougar, and it looks good, and is less than the Stainless Steel Brake conversion, and Wilwood is actually well known. Has anybody either used the kit or heard about it?

I've got them on the racecar. They will haul it down from 178mph no problem. These are the medium duty brakes though.

Are they appropriate for street use? The medium duty kit says it's for cars under 2800 lbs, and the heavy duty is for over 2800. So, ok for street?

Unless you've got a real lightweight, I'd run the heavy duty model.

I have the medium duty brakes on the front of my racecar, and it weighs 2850 or so with me driving. It stops better from 135 mph than most street cars do at 100.

You can tell by the resonses that Wilwood sells a quality brake kit. There is another kit that I would look at too. I just ordered a kit from Aerospace Components. It's not here yet, but I really liked the quality of the kits I've seen on a few cars around here. They sell a kit for heavy duty street use too. I don't want to step on any toes by suggesting Aerospace Components, I just feel that they offer a high quality kit as well. They sell kits for the three bolt spindle and the four bolt spindle.

I have the Wilwood heavy duty brakes also - No problems at all in 4 years of street use. They are not technically "DOT approved", but neither are 5-point seat belt harnesses....

ONE caution however. The Wilwood brakes move your wheels "out" toward the fender about 1/2". If you running wide wheels/tires, you might have a clearance problem. I ended up ording wheels with additional backspace to compensate.

You can also buy calipers (Dynalite, $100 each), rotor hats ($75 each) and rotors ($50 each) and mount them on drum brake hubs. Then you need to make your own caliper brackets and don't have the aluminum hubs.
