Just got done with the porting on my sr heads turned out real nice. Now I wanting some help with picking out the valves should I go from the 2.02 to the 2.05 and should I use under cut stims or not. They are going on 377w 14.1 comp sold roller cam 266/274 at 50 630 on lift on 107 7500 rpm max. Please give me your thoughts on this.

I had a 383W in my 69 Mustang for almost 6 years until I sold it last fall. It had the iron SR heads. Same setup as yours except .060 over. Cam specs were almost the same also except on a 104. I stayed with the 2.02's and stock length. The undercut stems would be a good idea.

Later,
David Cole

thats a stout motor, which needs some pretty substantial head flow... 300cfm minimum at the .600". With that said, i wouldn't be so quick to do valves without a flow bench to baseline the head, and then to help determine where more work is needed.

Hmmm Dave how did you do the bowl work with out the base line of the size valve you were going to use? Like if the heads only took 1.94 to start with then you port them and now your going to run a seat size of 2.05 on it you would still have some more work to do.
I dont know what size valves come in that head.

I agree about the flow bench but the money is tight and I could buy the valves for what the flow bench work would cost with having to grind the seats for the diferance valves.I already have the 2.02 and the 1.600 good race valves in my other set of stock sr heads that I instaled could use them but would like to get all the flow I can get .On second thought may be a flow bench would be cheaper then spending good money on something that would not help

Ya, it's hard to say... i personally dont see you gaining more than a couple cfm here and there with that small of an increase in valve size.

Edelbrocks peformer and performer rpm heads, one used 1.94 the other 2.02, flow +/- 5 cfm of one another on a 4" bore. Mainly this is due to nothing more than the seat being cut larger (same intake runner) and the increased shrouding on the 2.02.

On your heads, with 14:1 comp, I would want to see how much flow you have, and also what cc the intake runner is now that you've ported.

Ran fully ported/port matched, oversize /undercut valves with Dart Sr/s on my first 418. Made 572 hp, 517 ft lbs tq.
The heads just could not flow enough for a 418.
My .002

(they were freaking killer on my 357 the year before!!! Pulled to over 8 grand)!!!
