Vic Jr. vrs tunnel ram

for $$$$ we are building a 289 with 13.5 to 1 comp. all the good stuff in it rod pistons
world product Sr heads be for we ran it to 7000 rpm shift point because the toplader will not shift above 7000 rpm. we have a Vic Jr intake with a 750 dp Holly.
12.90 ET is the best we can get out of it at 4500' we just bought a Doug Nash 5 spd with a low gear 3.20 we have 6.00 rear gears with 29.5x12.00 slicks
we can move the shift point up to 7500-8000
that is still be in the power band. can we get more power from a tunnel ram with a single 850 dp. or two 390 carbs and run in our power band will a Vic Jr do the trick.tunnel ram move the air faster then a vic jr will?????????
any of your knowledge on this would a great help to me

Every engine I've ever put a TR on ran quicker, even stock ones... well my 429SCJ Even if volumetric effiency says no, my experience says more! You might try a good Dominator adapter & a big carb first. Most of the quicker smallblocks here have them.

Ok now...

I pride myself with a flawless experience in tunnel ram applications. A tunnel ram will help alot over your current manifold design, but with a single carb set-up? No way! The runner length is and location with respect to the base of the carb hurts proper fuel distribution.

The best approach would be a Dual 660 set-up (I know I preach 660's!). These carbs are "excellent" for a small block at that RPM. Ensure that you get a set that have a 850 baseplate conversion which will waken up the response with that RPM band.

You will thank me tremendously with that combo. Otherwise look at a dual HP650 set-up which is a little more complicated with linkage, fuel lines, and proper positioning, but none-the-less another flawless set-up.

Good luck.

If he ever used the 2 660's, he'd throw rocks at everything else! Those are the best carbs for smaller engines, you ain't preachin', you know

do you put them side ways or back to back
where can you buy linkage for them. do the 660 use a jet or plate for the sec.

The TPC 660 Holley is an 1850 configured inline carburetor when set-up in dual fashion. The 850 baseplate mod is a carb builders modification. I don't know of any builders who perform this modification at the level I do besides myself.

Yes I offer this service to all List#4224 holleys 660 center squirters, and they are flawless performers for the street!

Call me if you're interested.
