clutch clearances on transbrake c-4

I am rebuilding a transbrake c-4 and was wondering if I need to do anything different with the clearances? Also on a transbrake c-4 are the forwards hit hard when you release the button? I am new to transbrakes so please forgive my ignorance. Doesn't the brake hold reverse and low at the same time, then slam it into low. The transmission had regular Raybestos clutches 5 and 4. The clutches and steels measure close to stock, but clearances were extremely excessive. .072 on the 4 clutch hi/rev and .062 on the 5 clutch forward, endplay was .065. I wondered if someone had rebuilt before and had not set clearances or set them extremely loose to start out with. I figured the tighter the better, but I figured I would ask the pros. Thanks.

Endplay is a little high, I'm assuming you are measuring the movement of the input shaft. The end play of the clutch packs which is controlled by the large selective washer is more important. Clutch packs moving cause leakage and wear on the sealing rings.
Forward clutch clearance is not real important but I like them reasonably tight. .030-.040.
Direct clutch is the real issue. This was talked about in the "big C-4 thread". .005 per clutch for long life. .010 per clutch for less drag but shorter life. Pick your poison somewhere in between. I am using approx .006-.007 in mine.

Those clearances are way too loose. You want around .025"-.030" in both clutches and trans endfloat down to around .010"-.015". Here's a link with some info.Seems they run the rev/high a bit looser..
