Epoxy Garage floor coatings for new garage???

I'm moving into a new house next week and thinking of putting down an epoxy coating on the floor. I see home depot carriers a 2 part epoxy coating, a product called Epoxyshield by Rustoleum, and a Behr 1-part epoxy which is a 4 step process. Anyone with any experience with these products or any other floor coating??? Good or bad.

Thx,
Jon

Epoxy Garage floor coatings for new garage???

I was in the process of building a garage untill Old Man Winter put me on hold. I haven't poured the concrete yet, but a friend of mine who pours concrete for a living, told me the off the shelf products will do o.k. But he suggested getting a sealer from a concrete plant. Like a professional grade I guess. I haven't got to the point of checking prices so I don't know how they would compare.

Whatever you do, follow the manufacturers instructions to a TEE when doing the concrete prep.
I kind of 'slacked' when I prepped mine, (been 10 years tho), and part of it wants to peel up. Also, seal it when you're done. I didn't, and whenever racing gas, (or any other kind of gas), hits it, it takes the paint up.

I have no experiences to share but was doing some research on the same and came across this product http://www.ucoatit.com/
Check out the pic in the photo gallery of the viper pit. I picture the blue oval or pony as the center piece.

Yes, I did it. I vote - DO IT. Use the 2 part epoxy paint. I used the grey two part paint they sell at Lowes - probably the same thing. When I built the new garage, I did this and have not regretted it. If the floor is smooth, (I made mine REALLY smooth) etch it with pool acid, I think I used 50/50 acid/water. This will clean it too, which is very important. Rinse it THROUGHLY and dry completely - days maybe. Use a REALLY GOOD car paint type mask on your face for the whole process. When the floor is good and dry, roll on the epoxy. I used two units (gallons more or less) to cover 20x24. Be sure to let it cure fully before doing anything on it. I think I let mine set 36 hours. Maybe 48. Give away your creeper - you'll not need it. You'll be able to glide all over the floor in a T shirt.

It resists every chemical, even Berrymans.

Wet tires will not pull it up - actually nothing will pull it up if the prep is right. If you don't like it, you'll have to sand blast it off.

It's slick stuff if you spill water, trans fluid, etc. - watch out.

Two part car paint WILL stick to it and not come off - even with Berrymans.

Get a garage mop - you'll be treating it like a kitchen. At least until it gets covered with parts stuff like mine.

Do NOT use deck paint or regular garage floor paint. Use that crap on your work bench, not the floor. It WILL peal off a floor, even with prep.

One more thing - it's been down since 1997 and the only thing that has managed to penetrate it was a large drill press vise I dropped.

Thanks for the info all! I think I'm going to go with the Rustoleum 2 part epoxy, I picked some up at Home depot today and watched the video and looks straight-forward. The kit comes with the cleaner acid as well. I'll let you know how it turns out.
