drum brakes +dragracing how fast is to fast?

Just wondering how fast some of you have been in the 1/8 or 1/4 and have had trouble stopping with disk front/drum rear? I'm in a 90 stang "3000lb" stock front disk 9"big drums rear manual pedal and plaining to run 5.80's in the 1/8. WILL I STOP? I'm thinking I might need more stopping power. Of cource I'll be babying it may first couple of times down the track to make sure all is well. All experienced comments welcomed.

Well, it doesn't matter what brakes you have, the key depends more on how much shutdown area the track has.

Many of the old muscle cars from the factory back in the 60's and 70's only had drum brakes all the way around and they ran 10-11's on 1/4 which is close to high 5's low 6's on an 1/8th mile track.

And with that said, disk are better at stopping in my opinion. Disk brakes don't fade from heat as badly as drum brakes.

I can tell you that in Tulsa with a #4000 car in the 11's, with no line lock & a 4-speed, our shut down isn't enough... I have seen 9 second cars stop well enough, really need disc though...

I have a friend that just took off the stock drums off the front of his 9 sec. mustang for a pair of Wilwoods disc`s

I just, (like this winter), upgraded to Aerospace discs all the way around.
I'm only (was only running), 9.90's and low 10's all year around 134 mph, but my little discs up front, (10" rotors), and big 9" drums out back DID NOT stop enough to NOT cause sweat beads to appear on my forehead at different tracks.
Play it safe and upgrade brakes now. YOU DO NOT want to find out you don't have enough brakes/stopping power at the wrong time. Just one more thing NOT to have to worry about.
Be safe.

My torino has front disc/rear drum and it stops pretty well, I haven't been to a track yet but I can burn off from 125 to about 45 in a short time, makes yah lean forward quite a bit. If you have decent sized front tires it helps stopping as well since most of the stopping power is in the front anyways.

Good, excellent brakes no matter how expensive will be worth it. Its like the roll cage, you hope you will never have to use it, but if you do, you will be glad you did it and did it right. I am sure I will be upgradeing my SSB front disc`s to soemthing with better stopping power soon, it takes quite a bit leg power to slow this thing down and it only goes 110.
