Mark VIII Fan

I am thinking about putting a used Mark VIII fan in the '67 Cougar.

I searched the tech board and know the fan is 18" so it has to be at leas 18 x 18 and pulls 40A at 5000 CFM.

Is $100 a good price from the salvage yard? They will verify the fan motor works and give a 120 day warranty.

Does anyone know the dimensions of the Mark VIII fan shroud? It would be nice to know if the fan will fit the radiator I plan to use before I drive across town to buy the fan.

I have not bought the new radiator, knowing the shroud size would help plan the radiator purchase too. I think a 25" X 19" radiator will fit without modifying the core support.

I have the fan on my 71 torino. Works great but here is the thing it is a little big for your radiator. It just fits mine and mine is a 31x19. The other thing is that it sucks a lot of juice so you will need atleast a 140 amp alternator. If you don;t want to do that then find another smaller fan. Let me know if you have an questions. Oh yeah and I bought mine brand new for 95.00.

Thanks gtnrb71, I was afraid the Mark VIII fan might be to large for my application.

I already decided on a 95A alt., I should probably use a smaller draw.

Did just the fan motor cost $95? Or did that include the fan blade and shroud? Just curious, where did you buy the fan?

I can remeber where I bought it, it was a year ago that I bought it. It was a place that specialzes in newer mustangs. Sorry. Check out the fan swap on the main page that might be a good one for your car? Hope it goes well.

Thanks again, reading the article about the Taurus fan is what prompted my questions about the M VIII fan. The Taurus fan might work. I need to locate one and measure it.

How about a Cougar or Thunderbird fan? My 96 Cougar with 4.6 V8 dimensions are 22.5W x 19H x 6D. I do not know the amperage draw is but I cannot imagine that the factory fan would pull more amps than an after market fan. I had to use an aftermarket fan switch on a 90 Grand Am, kept burning motors, and never had a problem with the 30 amp fuse. As far as price, you can buy a new 18 inch Perma-Cool fan from Summit for about $100, a good used factory fan should cost half that.

I am running mine as a primary cooling fan. I bought an aluminum radiator and water pump for my cleveland and I have the mark VIII fan which draws a lot of power but drving home from hot august nights in the sacramento valley in the heat of summer and in stop and go traffic the car never went above 185.

I will check out the 4.6 Cougar fan it looks like it might be a good fit.

I will have to mock up the old radiator, shroud and fan to check the fan depth to see if 6" will work since the engine is out of the car.

5000 CFM was mentioned in an earlier Mark VIII fan post I have no idea if it is correct. Probably more like 3000 CFM.
