Mallory hyfire 6 cd ignition box

anybody use this in their cars? How do you like it? Does it perform as expected? I'm looking at this ignition box to light the fire for my 408 when it's build. I like the fact that it has the rev control and ignition retard built in (good for the nitrous later when it goes on).

Yes, I like it very much. I have had some issues with reliability. I cannot completely blame the box, but I would recommend that your electrical system be in top shape before installing and that you locate a 12V surge device to protect the box. It has the best feature vs cost of all the ignitions I've looked at. I ran it for 2 years before I had a failure and it was repaired under warranty.

Is the hyfire 6 the newest ignition box from Mallory? I downloaded the latest catalog from Mallory and it doesn't show the 6 in there at all. Summit lists a Hyfire 6AL which has the rev limiter feature but not the ignition retard.

Hmm - you're right. That's odd.

What about msd's digital 6+ box? I was checking out this box too. It has everything that the hyfire 6 has plus it has a start retard to make it easier to fire the engine up when cranking. The 6al is nice but it doesn't have a timing retard feature. By the time you buy the optional start/retard box for a 6al you would be better off getting the hyfire 6 or the digital 6+ box (less things to mount up).
