351C Maverick/Comet

My dad is looking for a home for a 351C/C6 combo I just sold him. He found a really nice '74 Comet. Will this combo fit? I have seen 289/302 in them, even a Boss 302. But I didn't know if a Cleveland would fit.

Thanks,

Jim

It'll fit, but it's tight. You might get better results asking the question on http://www.maverick.to
Good luck

Yep, it's tight but it would be worth doing. A C4 would be a better choice for the swap - for the size and weight if nothing else. The C's can sometime fit a litle better than a W because the exhaust ports point down instead of out. The deck is also a bit shorter than a 351W.

I know quite a few comet/falcons that are running clevelands in them at the tracks around here. Really look stuffed in the engine compartments, and I know for sure they all are running custom, (or homemade), headers on them.

i cut my shock towers a bit to squeeze the cleveland into my maverick. i have seen people swap over to either a cleveland or 351 windsor without any modifacations to the towers but it makes plug changes, plug wire, and header bolt work an all day job. auto krafters sells headers for this swap. the C6 will take some trans tunnel mods to fit also, i run a small bell housing with a C4 with no problems.

I agree with cutting the towers. If you do not it will be hell with plugs/wires/headers etc........ Cutting the towers is not that hard if you have a welder and a cutting wheel. If I recall my friend removed 1 inch per side. He pulled the motor back out after being frustrated working on the top half. Now he says it is a breeze. He had a 72 mav. I have a 70 mav. Took him about 10 hrs to complete the job. He said the trick is not to weld to much at one time to avoid warping anything a couple inches at a time.
