Numbers on the tag on the transmission. There is a site with all of them identified.

I think someone posted the link recently....Do a search for T-5 info or email me with the tag #'s and I'll look it up.

Good Luck,

Most Ford V8 T5s are World Class. They where introduced already in 85 or so to take care of the weaknesses of the early ones. Beware that World Class does not mean "the best transmission in the world", although they're not bad when taken care of. At least that's what I heard. I hope it's true as I install one in my 65 Mustang soon.

One of the differences is the WC has three-piece synchros where the regular T5 has one-piece synchros.
WC also has different gear tooth patterns.
Another way to tell is through tag identification, like previously mentioned.

I have 5 of these pieces of junk, all broken in some way. In my view the best intallation for a T5 is at the end of a chain to hold my boat in place down at the lake. I think they were built by the united nations as yet another cruel joke on the world. The car manufactures stopped making real trannys over 20 years ago, in fact they stopped making "real cars" over 30 years ago.I know I'm an auto body guy and I take apart and put together this junk all day everyday hell they don't even use bolts anymore lots of plastic push pins to hold your $30,000 money pit together and they used to make emblems out of floor sweepings not anymore now they make your crankshaft out of it,connecting rods too. Well I'm sorry but when I hear the word T5 it's like pulling the pin on a grenade I just explode so don't the T5s and heres another joke...AOD
