Another rearend question

Lately my 9" rearend in my '68 Gal has been blowing oil out. Soooooo I bought a differential vent from Summit and put it on but it still does it. Only this time it seems to ooze or drip out moreso than actually blowing out. My dad asked some buddies of his and they said that it could possibly be caused by mixing different types of gear oil (ex: 80wt with 90wt and different brands). Does this make sense to any of you? I'd hate to do all of the steps to drain the rearend and put a fresh batch of oil in it's place and then reallize that it didn't solve our problem. One guy even suggested putting 140wt oil in it. How does that sound?

Maybe its really the mixing. From what i heard thicker/heavier oil will not harm it.
Never heard of such a problem before.Maybe theres a bit water in there. How does it look??

did you re-install the hose on the axle housing? mine came with a length of hose around 18" or so, with the vent on the end, attached by a clip to the frame...maybe that is the key for you as well.

Well the oil does look a bit "watered" down. Not literally watered but it's not very thick.

And the vent hose isn't connected anymore. We placed this on it instead. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...57#largerimage
It originally did have the rubber hose connected to it but it was blowing the oil up into the frame.

Not sure why it might be blowing lube out, but what I do for vents on my rears is install a canister type fuel filter in the rubber line. Allows only filtered air in. In your case, might act as a small reservior as well.

I can't tell from your post, but here's an idea. Had this happen on my old 8 inch...Sucker would drip oil onto the ground, right off the tips of the u-bolts. I wasn't quite sure where it was coming from, until I noticed one day that when launching the car the whole rear end shifted up/down when power was applied. So, I took one of the u-bolts loose and found that it had chewed all the way through the housing. On both sides. Someone put traction bars on and had a problem with tightening bolts, or something. Anyway, unless you see the lube coming out of the vent hole specifically, might be something to check.
