is a milled intake useless???

went to my builder tonight, the short is assembled as are my heads also. Looks nice but he came across a problem. The used victor jr intake that I bought last year it turns out has been milled so that I cannot use it on my engine with my victor jr. heads. According to him its been milled quite a bit, I'll try to get actual #'s tomorrow as I'm going back to see the finished engine and give him more parts to check on the engine.

so just like the title says, is this intake useless? Can it still be used by someone on an engine somewhere?

It looks like I may sell my airgap to buy a new victor jr intake or use the airgap instead after I have the ports matched to my heads, don't know yet. If anyone's interested in the milled victor jr intake, email me and we'll talk.

Tony

ps (milled vj intake is for a 351W 9.5" deck height)

I bought one from some ass hole on e-bay it was milled enough to take some of the numbers off the bottom. I set it up on a 302 that was decked to -.005 out of the hole and the heads .020 there was a 1/8 gap on both sides no way it would work. So know I'm using it as a book end.

Could use yours to finish the set

A milled intake is still good and usable but like you found out, it may not be usable for your engine.

They aren't exactly easy to find for Ford motors but there are intake gasket sets that are thick than the stock set. But I have seen listings for .125 thick intake gaskets.

You might ask your engine builder if running a pair of gaskets on each side would be worakable.

You can also double up the gaskets & make an aluminum spacer to go between them if you need more space.

I might be interested in your AirGap for my 351W. I can't remember what deck heght is associated with the old blocks, and the new blocks? Also the port matching might be an issue. How much do you want for the AirGap?

jeffstar if you haven't already check your PM.

I won't be doing the double gasket this or spacer that, AFAIC my vj intake is for sale or I might take it back to the shop that I bought it off of last year at the car show and wing through his frt. window for selling me an intake that's been raped. I had asked the guy before giving him my money whether the intake was touched or not and he said no. There was no signs of the ports being touched and there was no way of knowing if the intake surface was milled or not until now. The only bad thing is it was a cash deal and now over a year later he's probably going to tell me to take a hike. Looks like I'll be doing some trash talking about his shop if I do call him up and he doesn't do anything for me.
