HI ALL
I have a chance to buy a running 61 Comet with the 6 cyl. Is it worth buying and fixing up.??

Any old Ford's worth saving in my book. The question becomes, "How much do have/want to spend?" I never buy a project w/o a firm goal/direction in mind. I estimate how much I think it'll cost to do it and then double it.

Yes, save it if you've got doable plans for it. I've always loved those early Comets. I was at a gas station once and heard this ominous rumble behind me. I turned around and discovered an early Comet in matte black, chopped roof, and huge meats underneath. The chopped roof with the stubby fins, cat eye rear tail lights and matte black finish made it look menacing. Very cool.

I really miss my 62 comet I had. It was a 4 door, but man it was awesome, no rust, ran great, but had to let some go back then. I do want another but a 2 door.

Thanks for the reply guys..
I'm going to get it tonight Its kind of a mint green well fadded. Body straight with one slight bend Rt.Rear. pannel, Rear bumper bent in center almost V shaped. Maybe able to streighten out. One of the little circle emblems on the front fenders is borken off.missing one of the fender mirrors (driver side),inteirerer fair, head linner shot as well as wether strepping. The guy I'm getting it from has already had the head done ( boy its a weaird one the intake is cast into the head). But for $600. I think I stole it . I think I'll try to keep it stock cause I'm going to need something econo when I get the truck done and to comute to work with. Hay Dark I'll get some pic and attach them for ya.

Amazing I had a '62 too. A 4 door with the left rear caved in. Drove that car to the junkyard when I was finished with it in 1979.Bought it for $100 in 1977 and sold it for $40.

By the way, that head is typical of 144, 170, 200 sixes and usually cracks somewhere towards the front. The exhaust manifold lug at the front also cracks because the thing will warp if you take it off and don't get it milled flat(er). Too much crank on the bolt and "click" it's gone!
