Final Answer ... 55 Effie project rear gears and yoke ... ready to build drive shaft

I currently have the Lincoln 2.50:1 rear gears with the yoke utilizing the two discs bolted together then the U-joint.

I understand the yoke like what comes on the Stangs etc are a little simpler to work with. Also, needing to make final choice on rear gears. I have a buddy here that can fix me up with absolutely whatever I want for small $$$ (I just swap him mine and he swaps me what I want for a bit of boot money).

I'll be running the basic factory style build 460 with the C6 ... 9" rear and four wheel power disc brakes ... and as most of you know the 78 Pontiac Trans Am front clip. I estimate I will be running tires near 28" diameter.

The old effie should handle and drive great and I'd like to get the right yoke set-up and some gears that will do the rest of the build justice at the same time ... but in the end, this is a daily driver and highway cruiser. And it belongs to Queenie ... that's my Wife Maria

any and all input appreciated ... the guy at the drive line shop thinks gears more in the 3.00 to 3.25 range are the ticket ... What say you all

I'd go with the 3.25 gear. That should give a little more oomph with the 28" tires. 3.25's will spin the engine around 2450 rpm at 60 mph.

OK ... I made the deal...

3.25:1 open rear gear with passenger car yoke.

This is a completely rebuilt third member ready to bolt in.

I'm swapping my Lincoln 2.50:1 third member and $250.00 for the fresh unit ... I don't feel to bad about that deal

I could have swapped for a 3.25 un-touched fresh "take-out" with more limitaitons on yoke ... trading mine and about $60.00 ... but somehow newly rebuilt seems better.

Wow Larry...This is wierd...I JUST read this post, and it is so related to what I called you about the other day!

To all that don't know what I am talking about, I found out that my best friend's Girl Friend's aunt is the owner of Currie Enterprises! I talked to her mom too, and she confirmed it! They told me if I need a new rear end They'd be happy to, "Get one for them." Something tells me I am glad that I gave them all free tickets to go see Brooks & Dunn last night! Sounds good Jeff ...

I just picked the 3.25:1 up and will be installing it this afternoon or evening.

Then I can get this thing on a trailer and haul it around to a few shops for some "specialty" work ... ie. Drive Shaft, Exhaust maybe even the brake shop to have the brake system looked over and bled out.

Then I will be getting close to the initial fire-up on the 460 and see if I can get the thing mobile under it's own power ...

Then take the whole thing apart again so I can paint the frame and begin the "Final Assembly" and actually create Queenie's Effie.

Damn that sounds like a lot of work

But then, as you said, School is almost over and you have the whole month of June to come and give me a hand
