351 C questions

I have a '70 Mach 1 with a 351 C engine. It has 4 barrel closed chamber heads, flat top pistons, Torker intake, SSI hydraulic cam .520 lift- int. and ex., 230 duration at 0.50, Rhoads lifters, stock exhaust manifolds, with a 2 1/4" exhaust system. It has a 2.95 first gear T-5 and a 3.25 rear gear in it.It had a 600 Holley vac. sec. carb on it , but it just did not pull like I thought it should. After tinkering with jetting and adjustments on the 600, I put together a 750 DP from four different carbs and whoa what a difference- it pulls hard now. Have any Cleveland guys had similar experiences with DP carbs on Clevelands. I am thinking of putting more gear in it, all I have available is a 3.50 , what do you think?

go with the 3.50s, Cleveland 4bbl don't come alive till around 3000 rpms. Then hold on.

The lower the gear ...

The more "Alive" your Cleveland will be ...

Limited only by your ability to sit behind the wheel and listen to that engine REV

At least. A 3.7 would be better even. 2 1/4 pipes seem a little small for that setup.

Gear and headers would help a lot. I bought a 600 Holley and hated it. The engine just would not rev . I was better off with the Motorcraft I had. I now have a 750 VS and like it.

The best bang for the BUCK for me was the 4.11's. I am not saying those are the right gears for you, but that definately woke it up! The Top Loader swap did the same--Guess it is the Extra low gear ratio.
