460 timing chain, which one?....

Need some advice before I waste money! I have a 460 in a 1977 Lincoln with 98 thousand miles on it. I am looking at Jegs and they have two different Cloyes timing chains to choose from. I know from all the 385 series gurus on this site to order a 68-71 tdc timing chain My question is, do I order the true double timing set or the street true double roller set I ran a true double roller set on my 400hp plus 351, but is this necessary on this engine? The true roller list for $97.99 and the street roller list for $37.99 Will it make a difference if I run the cheaper version

Sorry so long. Any help will be greatly appretiated

When i got into that i noticed that my gears looked like new. That must be cause the 460 oils the timing gear. There was just the usual chain strech. So i just bought a chain.
I never would have done that on a smallblock,LOL.
50k mls, still no sign of wear.
IMHO your fine with the cheaper one.

Thanks for the reply 71lincMK3, I am also looking for some more horsepower from the early model chain as the later models are retarded 4 degrees. I wonder how much horsepower is actually gained by this. Anyone have any numbers on this I have heard 25-30 Thats a pretty large gain of hp If it is I'll take it

Actually its even 8 degrees!
I've read the same hp figures in different publication/net.Will also give you a lot more low end grunt!

I have just completed the swap you are doing.
I have not run the engine yet, but it will most assuredly have increased power.

I went with a true roller timing set from a 1971 and older 429/460 engine.

The only difference between street roller and true/full roller timing sets are the type of chain.

The true roller sets will last a bit longer and will exibit less stretch. both are much better than the stock silent non-roller chains, which last a long time, so go with the best your budget will allow.

When I built my 460, I used the Edelbrock timing chain setup.
