Dipstick ! Thats me.

I've just got a M6007-S58 351W crate engine from Ford Racing. The block casting date is 1994. I've change the water pump (to LH,as viewed looking at tne front of the engine), fitted a new timing pointer and remarked the balancer for ignition timing. The engine will be fitted to my 69 Mach 1. I know I've got change the oil pan to a front sump type (the engine I think, is basically a truck engine with a Performer RPM intake). The question I have is where does the dipstick go? I can drill the blanked off dipstick tube hole in the front timing cover (as stated I've got change the oil pan anyway), but where is the dip stick tube meant to go on these later 351's ?

2nd question, the engine is fitted with a Duraspark II distributor, I need to get an ignition control unit that is compatable with the magnetic pickup fitted to this dizzy, any suggestions ?

Thanks

Rob

The dipstick tube goes in the block, LH side, center of the engine right under the head. You'll see a semi-circle recess cut in the block: that's the hole. Plug it if you're gonna go with a front sump pan.
The Duraspark II was used for quite some time on a variety of cars, so you might just ask for an ignition control module (think that's what it is called) for any late '70s car. I changed my 351C to electronic ignition, using a Duraspark distributor. I asked for a module for a '79 F150, because that's what I had as a guide for wiring. Any other will probably work.

Just go to the local parts counter and ask for a brain box.

Ask for a "brain box" and they'll look at you like you're a f**cking idiot. Not only that, there's half a dozen different ones. You're probably going to need the Ignition Control Module with the blue grommet. Fits most Fords from 75-80. Any parts house should have them in stock.

Thanks for the replies Guys. Tracked down the dipstick hole in the block, and its plugged. Now for the ignition module. I'm in New York on Monday PM for vacation. So I'll have to track down a Ford dealer in Manhatten with a parts department.

You don't have to go to a Ford dealer if you don't want to. Any auto parts store should have it, even places like Auto Zone.
