White smoke out the exhaust

My friend was driving his car to go get an inspection sticker and all of a sudden white smoke was coming out one tail pipe.
He did a compression check and #2 cyl. only had 15#. So he removed the valve cover and and found the intake nut on the rocker arm had backed off. He had already removed the intake by this time so he couldn't do another compression check.
But I think that he has a crack some where, that would account for the white smoke.
He said that there is no sign of water in the oil.
What do you guys think?

Might be a head gasket. You can do a compression check with the intake off, just make sure the area around the ports are clean so the motor doesn't suck anything in.

Looks like it was just the rocker being loose that caused the problem. After readjusting the lash he has 185# just like all the other cyl's. We think the white smoke was caused by the vacuum in the cyl. drawing oil up through the piston rings (because the intake was closed during all 4 strokes) and, since the engine wasn't hot enough to produce blue smoke it was white smoke (similar to cooking oil burning in a pan on your stove) white when not that hot and gets darker as the temp. goes up.
What do you guys think?

No smog test. It's a 67 Shelby GT350 with a Boss 302 motor and Autolite inline carb.
