Driveshaft

Had driveshaft shortened an inch (long story)and replaced the 28 spline axles with some 28 spline mosers. Now I have a vibe starting at 60 mph.Going to try turning shaft 180 degrees but was wondering do you undo the rear u - joint and turn shaft without pulling it from the trans or pull the whole shaft out and turn it 180 so the splines in the trans are also moved?Btw the shaft was balanced when shortened.

I'd say just pull it out all the way and rotate it. If this doesn't work, I'd take it back to the shop that welded it, and have them double check their balance job.

Sweet, sweet, Galaxie by the way, what is its combo?

Good Luck Roadwarrior

Driveshaft

One thing that can help cause a vibration is over tightening the u-bolts that hold the u-joint`s on. When the bolts are cranked down on the caps the caps will deform taking on an egg shape, not enough to see but enough to cause the cap the actually tighten onto the needle bearings inside. This is may not be your problem but it may be contributing if they are to tight. My recommendation is to replace the nuts with a nut that has a poly ring init to keep it from backing off, but only tighten them down just snug and not tight.

Good luck.

Driveshaft

Just take it out of the rear diff yoke and turn it.No need to remove from trans..
Also wouldn't hurt to put a dial gauge on it and check the runout..
