Electric fan

I have a spare 10" or 12" electric fan and plan on putting it on my car for a short beach trip. I need it to help keep my car cool while I'm sitting in beach traffic. My question is, which way should it blow? I thought you were supposed to make it blow towards the engine, but some people say it needs to pull air out (which would be fighting the engine driven fan in there now); what do you think?

Electric fan

If the fan is mounted in front of the radiator, then the fan should blow into the radiator. If the fan is mounted behind the radiator, then it should pull air thru the radiator.

Its pretty simple if you think about it.
Your doing 70 MPH down the freeway. Therefore you've got an air flow of 70 MPH in to the radiator (assuming a day of no wind), and your cooling fan is going to try and oppose that air flow by blowing the opposite way! I don't think so!. cooling air is ALWAYS blown from the front to the back of the engine bay. Irrespective of wether the fan is mount in front, or behind the radiator.

If, as you say, you're using the electric in conjunction with your stock fan, you are probably going to be forced to make it a pusher (front mounted). I don't see where you'd have the room to mount it behind your radiator because of the stock fan and shroud. If it is a universal electric fan, you should have no problem. But some fans were designed as pushers only or pullers only. And if you have air conditioning, you run into the problem of the condenser mounted most likely on the front of the radiator. I don't mean to say it's not a good idea, because it is. If you get it mounted, just hook it up to a 12v switch and pop it on when you get into stop and go traffic. Slick!
