390 Rod Bearing

Helping a friend rebuild his 390. When he put the rod bearings in, they are not centered in the cap? Is this right? They seem to be off a little more than 1/16" or so to one side. Should the gap on the two rods be on the inside or outside of the journal?

Some are offset on one side, and some on the other. Plus, this was a crate motor so there isn't any rod numbering (we don't know if a certain rod should be in any particular cylinder).

Any help appreciated.

390 Rod Bearing

I believe they have an offset to them. Make sure that you put the rods in the journals the right way. The chafer on the rod has to match the chafer on the crank or you can kiss your bearings goodby. That is what happened to my old 302. It was rebuild just before I bought the car. I put 1,200 miles on it and it took out 3 rod bearings. All the rods were on the wrong way. So make absolutely sure they are right!
