GT mustangs

Do all GT mustangs from 96 to present have V8 motors in them? Also, Is there such thing as a GT stang that only has a V6 in them? Or did all Gt stangs come stock with a V8. Thanks.

All gt's from 96 and up are 4.6l ohc v8's. Ive never seen a mustang gt with less than 8 cylinders, although I know ford did release some pretty weak engines in the mid to late seventies and early eighties.

There were some '84-'85 GTs made with turbo 2.3s in them.

From '79-'86 the turbo 4cyl was an option on the Mustang, including in most of the Indy Pace Cars in '79. It became an option as part of the GT package when the GT was reintroduced in '82. In '80 and '81 it was prefered to the 255 V8 that was offered in the Cobra. It stopped being offered in the GT about the same time as the SVO Mustang was introduced. The '86 SVO produced something like 210HP in the final year of it's run.

I looked at, and bought, an 85 GT when they were new. If I remember correctly, the SVO (intercooled turbo 4) was not available with the GT package. There were SVO's and GT's, but no SVO GT.

I could be wrong but I believe that the last year for the turbo GT was '84(maybe '83). (The turbo option was dropped from the GTs because they didn't sell) This was the same year that the first SVO was offered. The SVO was never a GT and vice versa. The SVO was produced to compete with the European turbo cars that were popular then. Sort of a ricer competition before there were ricers.

The sohc 4.6's are puttin out 260hp, the dohc mod motors are puttin out between 300-320hp. The new 5.0l dohc modular motors are puttin out 425hp but ford has yet to put one of these in a car from the factory.
